UFC 120 Betting Sneak Peek: Bisping Will Get the Burden of a full Nation's Anticipations - Sports

Michael Bisping, the headline contender in the impending UFC 120 gambling event, is a sturdy man. Of that there's little question. But he'll have to be in particularly great form on October sixteenth, as he'll have to sustain the weight of an whole country's anticipations.

It's challenging for folks outside of England to recognize what a actually major celebrity Bisping is in England and the UK. In a place where soccer is king, he is the uncommon exclusion of an athlete that can rank alongside the country's cherished footballers when it comes to popularity and he is the only reason that the UFC 120 probabilities contest is being put on in London and not someplace on US soil.

And while that is surely something to be proud of and a major achievement for a British athlete, it also creates a major amount of strain and anything less than complete control in the impending UFC 120 gambling action will be an unqualified failure.

That's a lot of strain on one contender, yet Bisping is used to this type of attention and strain. If anyone can manage it, it's him.

Bisping has also been a well regarded contender in the middleweight division, but he's just never been pretty great enough to win the championship. And at his age and with a middleweight champion solidly proved, it's not going to occur any time soon. But Bisping will stay a hard rival, the man that nobody wants to fight but a returning challenger just the same, and never a champion.

Against his UFC 120 probabilities contest he ought to have little trouble. Japanese contender Yoshiro Akiyama is a incredible martial artist and a legitimate master of Judo but he is not experienced at MMA fighting and thus far his skills haven't translated to this arena. He became a member of the UFC in 2009 and his first competition was at UFC 100 in July. Even though he sustained a broken orbital bone throughout the start of round 2, he went on to destroy UFC veteran Alan Belcher by means of split decision.

He was anticipated to face Wanderlei Silva at UFC 110, but instead Silva wound up fighting and beating Akiyama's current opponent, Michael Bisping. He was then going to fight Silva again a while back this year at UFC 116, but Silva pulled out due to fractured ribs. Instead, Akiyama fought Chris Leben, a mediocre contender who still soundly beat Akiyama. It was his first official loss in five years. It will be interesting to see how he bounces back in his 2nd UFC competition, however the conditions in London at the UFC 120 gambling event will be less than ideal for anyone trying to fight the cherished Bisping. It's hard enough to take on a contender with a much better record, but to do it on that contender's home turf is asking an awful lot.

Akiyama's career is most likely over before it even commenced, and his last competition of any real meaning could only be this one as he's offered as the sacrificial lamb to Bisping.

If You Love English MMA Then You'll Love the UFC 120 Wagering Action - Sports

Break out the tea and crumpets and God Save the Queen as MMA skips the pond to hold the UFC 120 gambling competition in Jolly Olde England.

In the last couple of years the UFC has carried out a tremendous job of increasing its world wide attractiveness by hosting tournaments in foreign nations (and much further abroad than just Canada) and added a little spice to the process. This won't be the 1st time that a UFC Main Event has been presented in England, but the UFC 120 probabilities competition will be the 1st time that Brits have dominated the roster. This will actually be the 9th competition hosted in England, and the 1st since UFC 105. It is going to coincide with another British UFC competition, the 1st ever UK UFC Fan Expo.

The competition will be held at London's O2 Arena, which used to be referred to as the Millenium Dome. It is one of the largest indoor arenas in Europe and has been referred to as the World's Busiest Arena since 2001. The Arena has hosted many other kinds of fighting tournaments, including the WWE Friday Night Smackdown and many boxing fights. All of it from reality shows to basketball games to comedy shows have been put on here, such as Chris Rock.

From start to finish the UFC 120 gambling competition is filled with Limeys and it should make for quite a spectacle in London. MMA is big in the UK and there are lots of skilled homegrown stars that should come out to shine on October 16th.The headliner in the Main Event is the one and only local boy Michael Bisbing, who didn't break through to superstardom in the US but is big in the UK. Bisbing is a skilled fighter in the middleweight class and is always on the edge of championship competitors. With a career record of 19-3, he has the figures to make him a genuine competitor. But with losses in 2 of his previous four matches vs premier UFC competition, it seems like he may have arrived at his potential.

It does not matter, since this person is one of England's most popular sons and he is precious by the devotees. He will no doubt get a big reception at the UFC 120 gambling competition and should score a huge win over his Japanese opponent, Yoshiro Akiyama.

Other Brits headlining the UFC 120 gambling Main Card involve the skilled threesome of welterweights: Dan Hardy, John Hathaway and James Wilks. Hardy is most renowned of the competitors but all 3 will be on top of their game in front of the home crowd.

The bout was formerly planned to involve Dan Hardy fighting vs Dustin Hazelett, but Hazelett pulled out considering he got married in September. Rather, Hazelett confronted Rick Story at UFC117, and Hardy will be contending with Carlos Condit.

On the Preliminary Card theres additionally a load of English competitors such as Rob Broughton, Paul Sass, Kurt Warburton and James McSweeney.

So bring out the Fish 'n' Chips and settle in for some excellent English combat.

UFC 120 Probabilities Competition: Hardy versus Condit Should Be Dog Fight - Sports

It is not often that the welterweight division carries a UFC Main Event, but that might only be what happens when the UFC 120 prospects action gets moving. Welterweights Dan Hardy and Carlos Condit will beat the tar out of each other for five rounds or fewer on Saturday October sixteenth at the O2 Dome in London England. It is possible to be sure that more than just a couple of fanatics will be cheering for the English hero Hardy.

What makes this matchup all the more remarkable is that it has the prospective to be the fight of the night and perhaps the bout that MMA fanatics most want to see, and yet it is not even the Main Event of the UFC 120 betting competition.

For those MMA fanatics not familiar with him, Dan Hardy from Nottingham, England is one of the best welterweight competitors in the world and could only be the best welterweight in the world aside from Georges St Pierre. His career record of 23-7 is a lot more impressive than it sounds and he could only be the best pound for pound competitor in the UFC 120 prospects competition.

Hardy is 23-7 in 31 career MMA games, but a lot of of his losses came in early stages in his career in the pretty low level English MMA fighting scene, which is for all intents and purposes unimportant. In his UFC career Hardy has been impressive, going 5-1 with his sole loss arriving to the immortal St Pierre in March of this year in a Welterweight title game. Following that particular competition, nevertheless, even St Pierre was pleased with Hardy's performance. Even when Hardy was at danger of having his arm shattered, he refused to tap out. St Pierre stated his shock later that Hardy refused to tap.

In the UFC 120 prospects competition, he will be fighting a pretty gifted adversary in Condit. Condit, fighting from Albuquerque, New Mexico, is a gifted all around competitor that can pose issues for his competitors in any number of ways. With a 25-5 lifetime record, he knows his way around the Octagon. But he hasn't confronted as challenging an adversary as he's going to encounter in London before now, and this may very well be a career defining game. He's 11-1 in his past 12 competitions and has won two straight bouts arriving into this matchup.

Condit formerly fought in a promotion similar to the UFC, World Extreme Cagefighting. He was the ultimate WEC welterweight champ in that promotion. He made the move to UFC after the WEC buyout and made his debut at UFC Fight Night 18. He lost that competition via split decision versus Martin Kampman. His most recent competition in the UFC betting action was at UFC 15, where he fought versus Rory MacDonald. That fight, which he won in the third round with a TKO, won the Fight of the Night award. He's now rated the #10 welterweight in the world by Sherdog.

Nonetheless, Hardy is the #4 rated welterweight in the world by Sherdog and should get the win. But these two high-ranking, hard-hitting welterweight champs should put on a good show for viewers and fanatics.

UFC 127 Preview and Fight Picks - Sports

UFC returns to Sydney after a very successful first time experiment down under with UFC 110. This time, UFC 127 has a welterweight match-up between Jon Fitch and BJ Penn as the headline fight.

While this isn't a title fight (Georges St Pierre currently holds that honor), Penn v Fitch is an fascinating fight between two extremely evenly matched fighters.

Penn was thoroughly roughed up by St Pierre at this weight and his recent form has been patchy to say the least. Frankly, I think welterweight is a class too far for Penn and that his Brazilian ju-jitsu skills are better suited to fights at lightweight.

Inevitably, I'm going to have to pick Jon Fitch as the victor of this headline UFC 127 bout - he's just more powerful, bigger and a better wrestler than Penn. Penn would have to hope for a knockout but I don't think he's going to be able to get close enough to Fitch to deliver that kind of blow.

Keep in mind, of course, Jon Fitch has only lost to the brilliant GSP at this weight division and I certainly don't anticipate that changing at UFC 127.

Another UFC 127 fight to take a closer look at is Michael Bisping v Jorge Rivera. Rivera, who is something of a veteran these days, has been trash talking about his opponent in recent interviews - something I think is very unwise.

While Rivera is certainly a stronger puncher and a man who can take some serious punishment without going down, Bisping has a greater range of skills. His ground and pound, in particular, has improved significantly and his wrestling is also much better. I fully expect Bisping to wear the older man down and win - most likely by submission - in the third round.

You can catch all the UFC 127 action from the Acer Arena, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on February 27, 2011. As with UFC 110, the event is scheduled for early afternoon local time, so USA MMA fans will be able to see it at the usual start times back home.

UFC 24 takes MMA into 21st Century - Sports - Martial Arts

The UFC is known as one of the premier Mixed Martial Arts fighting leagues in the world. While it is well known and well respected now, it was not always regarded as a serious sport. The popularity of the sport has grown a lot over the years. Much of the growth of the sport has come since the turn of the century.

The first UFC event of 2000 was UFC 24. This event was known as First Defense. The event took place in the Lake Charles Civic Center in Lake Charles, Louisiana. This event followed UFC 24 and brought the UFC back to the United States after their event in Japan.

This event was historic because some of the UFC fighters of the future had their first matches in this event. There were several fighters such as Ian Freeman, Dave Menne and Shonie Carter. This was also the first time that Jens Pulver would fight on television as the first fight of his career took place off of television at UFC 22.

The name of the event came from the main event that was scheduled to take place in the fight. The fight was supposed to be a title fight between the two heavyweight fighters Kevin Randleman and Pedro Rizzo. While the fight between these two fighters was highly anticipated, it actually did not end up happening. A freak accident happened during warm-ups that caused an injury to one of the fighter. Randleman was walking and slipped on the concrete floor. When he fell to the ground he hit his head and was knocked unconscious. Fortunately they were able to bring him to the hospital whether he was taken care of. He sustained a concussion in the accident. Ultimately the fight was rescheduled for a future UFC event.

On the preliminary card there were fights between Shonie Carter and Brad Gumm and also Scot Adams and Ian Freeman. The fight between Carter and Gumm was decided by deision as Carter dominated the match through two rounds. It was a unanimous decision. The second fight was a heavyweight bough and Adams took the fight by way of submission just 3 minutes into the first round of the fight.

The Main Card fights were as follows: Jens Pulver vs. David Velasquez, Bob Cook vs. Tiki Ghosn, David Menne vs. Fabiano Iha, Lance Gibson vs. Jermaine Andre and Tedd Williams vs. Steve Judson.

Pulver won his fight by TKO in the second round of the fight. Cook won by submission with a rear naked choke in the second round. Dave Menne won by unanimous decision 15 minutes into the fight. Lance Kibson won by KO in the third round. The final fight was won by Tedd Williams. The fight was won by TKO. The referee was forced to stop the fight due to strikes in the first round of fighting. Ultimately this was a very successful UFC Event. The next event that would take place would be UFC 25 and would bring the UFC back to Japan again.

UFC Fight Night 24 - Sports - Martial Arts

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira is a Brazilian mixed martial artist and an amateur boxer. He was entitled as the Brazilian Super Heavyweight Champion in the year 2006 and 2007. On August 28 2009, Dana White had announced that Nogueira signed a contract with the UFC. Nogueira won the UFC 106 event against Luiz Cane with a sweeping left hook finishing his opponent with punches at 1:56 on the first round.

Nogueira was then scheduled to fight Brandon Vera at UFC 109 but then he was forced to take the fight off because of a fractured ankle he got while training. His next fight was against Forrest Griffin at UFC 114 but it fails when Griffin pulled out the fight due to a shoulder injury. Griffin was then replaced by Jason Brilz, and Nogueira won a split decision. He then faced Ryan Bader but he lost the fight via unanimous decision. Finally, Nogueira was expected to fight against Tito Ortiz at UFC Fight Night 24 but Ortiz was forced to withdrawn from the match because of a cut during training, and replaced by Phil Davis. Nogueira was now having a 19-4 mixed martial arts record.

On the other hand, Phil Kwabina Davis is an American mixed martial artist currently fighting on a light heavyweight division at UFC. Both Nogueira and Davis signed a contract with the UFC in the 2009, but Nogueira was earlier than Davis as Davis signed in the month of December. On February 2010 at UFC 109, Davis won the fight against Brian Stann. Davis defeated Alexander Gustafasson on the first round with Anaconda Choke at 4 minutes and 55 seconds time on April 2010. Recovering Vitor Belfort eyes UFC 141 slot, fight with UFC 136?s Sonnen-Stann winner - Sports - Martial Arts

The injury that forced Vitor Belfort out of a featured UFC 139 slot is simply a speed bump on his quest for a UFC title, and he's planning to return to the cage before year's end.

While a recent in-studio guest on MMAjunkie.com Radio (/radio), Belfort said he's specifically targeting a return at the year-end UFC 141 event in Las Vegas.

As for a potential opponent, Belfort has his sights on the winner of an upcoming UFC 136 fight between Chael Sonnen and Brian Stann. He'd be happy with either opponent. But for very different reasons.A week ago, Belfort was forced out of UFC 139s co-headliner with former Strikeforce champ and UFC newcomer Cung Le. Wanderlei Silva ultimately took his spot on the November card.

So what exactly forced Belfort out of the fight? Well, he's not saying. Not specifically, anyway.

Other than his doctors and UFC officials, Belfort said the injuries are being kept quiet. One has been lingering, and the other is new. But Belfort, who decided to fight through those ailments in a recent knockout win over Yoshihiro Akiyama, could no longer put off the recovery.

"I just don't want to step in the octagon not (being) 100 percent," he said. "I see a lot of guys stepping in there just to make money. I'm not there just to make money. I'm there to win. I'm there to accomplish (something). I'm there for the belt, to make history. I want to fight to win, not just to show up."

Belfort, who was just 19 won he won a UFC 12 heavyweight tournament in 1997, said he just can't make the type of foolish decisions he did early in his career.

"I've done a lot of silly things," he said. "I fought with broken hands and things. But I can't abuse my body anymore. I'm 34 years old. I have four or five years more in my career. So the decisions I make, I made with doctors and people in my camp that I trust and the people that care about me."

Currently, Belfort is undergoing physical therapy twice a day for the next month. It's a regimen that's as an intense as a training camp, he said. After that, Belfort said he'll be ready to fight again in December (and even asked the UFC to put the Le matchup on the shelf until then, though officials couldn't oblige).

So with UFC 141 slated for Dec. 30 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Belfort is campaigning for a slot on the card."I hope I can be on that one," he said. "I'll be ready for that one for sure."

As far as an opponent, he's got one in mind. Actually, he's got two possibilities in mind, but there's one he really, really wants."One opponent I really want, I hope Chael wins," he said. "I really want to fight him. I think the winner of that fight, me and Chael, we'd be [ready] to fight for the title. His fighting always (goes) to a decision. He's a boring fighter, but I'll make sure that fight will end up quick, and I'll give him a fight he's never had in his life."I promise that."

Of course, if Stann wins, Belfort is happy to fight him instead. But he wants that bout for different reasons, even if it leads him to the same result: a title shot.

"If Stann beats Sonnen, he's in line," Belfort said. "I think Stann is a great fighter, a great person, a great athlete, a great man. He's sells fights with his fists, with his technique and his performance. Stann is a great fighter."

If that fight does happen, Belfort said trash-talking and boastful predictions won't be needed. He knows Stann, a decorated war veteran who's one of the UFC's most effective ambassadors, will save his talking for the cage. Belfort considers himself the same type of fighter.

But if the controversial Sonnen wins, Belfort plans to expose him."He's the type of fighter who can sell with his mouth," Belfort said. "He can not sell with his performance. He's a great wrestler, and he's a great fighter, but he's not exciting. He doesn't bring the heat."I do."

FREE! Watch UFC 137 by LIVE STREAMING now! - Entertainment

FREE! Watch UFC 137 by MEGAVIDEO now! It is just an away from you with the link!

Watch UFC 137 now! This is an stirring arrival for all of us that will thoroughly give us earnest want . I also know that you have been waiting for this. We are not doing this all the time but we just feel the need of doing so this time. Why? We are just being good. We will provide you the FULL VIDEO of UFC 137. Adore!

One of the biggest advantages comes in the fact that Penn, a former champion at both welterweight and lightweight, has consistently stepped into the cage against the best the sport has to offer. While he hasn't always found success, the level of competition he has faced is far superior to that of his opponent. The same cannot be said for Diaz, as he has been rocked and dropped a few times inside of the cage. Throughout a legendary career, Penn has never been put down and I don't see it happening in this fight.

Mix in the fact both men have outstanding ground games, and I see this fight turning into a fireworks display featuring two sets of four-ounce gloves. With those similarities in place, determining who will emerge victorious in this one comes down to things like endurance, heart, and drive, and I think Nick Diaz leads the way in all those categories. You're not going to tire Diaz out over three rounds. Even if this was a five-round fight, I would have zero questions about Diaz's endurance in the 24th minute; the guy runs triathlons in his spare time, and does well.

There is nothing similar connected to this fight for Penn. He's said all the same things about living up to his potential and blah blah blah leading up to this fight, but if he couldn't get himself fully psyched up to face GSP a second time, why should I believe he'll do things differently for Diaz? It will be entertaining - and hopefully feature some in-fight trash talking too - and it will end with Diaz winning an unanimous decision, and me defending my title once again.

It is doggedly copious to fill your day with gladness as this UFC 137 hits the big screens today. In fact, UFC 137 just one of the incomparable shows you could have today. UFC on FOX 1 - First Main event Cain Velasquez vs Junior Dos Santos - Sports

UFC President Dana White on Friday announced that Cain Velasquez will make the first defense of his heavyweight title against Junior Dos Santos on the inaugural UFC on FOX broadcast. Dana White said "We want to deliver to our partners and fans and really kick it off with a bang, What better way to kick it off than with a heavyweight title fight?" in a very surprising but extremely smart business decision the UFC decided to show the Heavyweight Title fight between Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos for free on FOX.

This type of match up could wind up being one of the best Heavyweight match ups of all time. This would be one of the top 5 match ups in any weight class this year and would easily garner solid pay per view numbers. Interestingly enough, instead of trying to max out the short term money on getting quick pay per view dollars, the UFC smartly invested in long term by scheduling one of its best match-ups and add value to its newly found partnership with a major television network FOX. UFC Media Call: Dana White Announces Velasquez vs. Dos Santos on FOX.

This is why the UFC is the premiere company in MMA. They got on cable television and did a deal with spike TV and created a reality show to help expose their brand to the public on free tv. Then, years later, they were able to solidify a deal with a Major television network with FOX. Most importantly, they were smart enough to really give the first time viewers on FOX potentially one of the great bouts in the history of the heavyweight division.

Some organizations don't have the foresight to give something valuable away for free to show viewers the best their sport has to offer. They will only show B-level fights on network television. What the UFC knows all to well is that if these two fighters put on a great fight the people that watched the sport for the first time are much more likely to shell out the $60 for the next time either of them are headlining a pay per view event. This is what sets the UFC's philosophy so far away from what I remember with boxing. The only thing that could derail this great first time event on FOX is some sort of injury to one of the fighters (let's just hope nothing like this happens to ruin this inaugural event), but other than that it should be the start of a very good relationship between the UFC and FOX broadcast network.

As for the fighters themselves they sport very impressive records with only one loss between both fighters. Junior Dos Santos was submitted by an arm bar back in 2007 by Joaquim Ferreira for his only loss and this was before he began his career with the UFC. Cain Velasquez is not only undefeated, but he has been an absolute terror in the ring. While he has only had 9 fights under his belt so far, only one fight went to a decision and that was back in 2009 vs Cheick Kongo. Of the 8 remaining fights 7 were finished by TKO and 1 by KO.

There is nothing like having an undefeated heavyweight fighter and in the world of MMA this is not a common occurrence. If it were not for Cains recent injury of his torn rotator cuff he should be the favorite to win this fight. As we have seen before coming off a serious injury and a long lay off can put on some ring rust on any fighter. The way the UFC works is you fight the best fighters all the time and there is no time to take a couple of easy fights to get back into the groove.

Shane Carwin found this out all to quickly when he first returned after major back surgery. His first opponent when he came back into the octagon was none other than Junior Dos Santos. Unfortunately for Carwin, Junior Dos Santos was in top form and nearly ended the fight in the very first round bloodying Carwins face so severely it was 50/50 on if the Doctor working the fight would allow it to continue. The fight did end in a unanimous decision for Junior Dos Santos, but the fight was never really in doubt from very early in the first round.

So this first main event on FOX really could be a coin toss for who would win. They are both that good. If Cain is healthy though he should be the favorite to retain the title, but if not then Junior Dos Santos should be favored in the fight. Here are two videos one of each fighter to get an idea of their skills inside the Octagon: Cain Velasquez Highlights with Brock Lesnar footage at the end of the video

Handicapping Tips for UFC Betting - Sports - Extreme Sports

If you are a person who wants to be involved in the adrenaline rush of UFC betting then you have to the right place. Every sport betting such as UFC betting requires knowledge about handicapping, but be forewarned that the processes here would differ greatly from other sports. There is no one size fits all when it comes to handicapping and especially when you are dealing with UFC betting.

Don't make mistakes like what rookies often make by oversimplifying the evaluation process of looking for winning players by looking only at some components of a betting proposition while ignoring others.

For that reason, one should be gregarious with handicapping in order to know where to put your money on UFC betting.

Bet Underdogs When You Can

Finding 'live' dogs is a solid handicapping tactic in any sports betting pursuit but this is very essential in UFC betting. The competitive dynamic of UFC is such that once you get past the top fighters in an individual weight class there's a lot of parity.

You will often find fighters who are priced based on their 'name' and popularity but betting on a well known fighter is much like overpaying, it's always best to bet on an unknown fighter since you won't have to spend so much on betting.

Favor Fighters Who Finish

Should you bet on a favorite just make sure that he's a fighter with a proven track record of ending fights clearly by knockout or submission. So go for a fighter who finish the fight cleanly and not always on technicalities. A favorite should not only be a top level fighter, but one who has the ability to end them early via KO or submission as opposed to 'grinding out' decisions.

Never Overvalue UFC Experience

This is very similar with favorites and underdogs. Those with a lot of UFC experience will of course be a bit pricey than the ones who has less experience but keep in mind that it's very much irrelevant. UFC is just another promotion for fighting and as such will always promote well experienced and known fighters than the unknown ones. A fighter who has less experience with UFC still has the possibility to knock a UFC veteran out. Go beyond the hype of their experience and popularity and make your own choices.

Doing your research and investigation will help you decide on which fighter to bet on
