The UFC 117 fight was announced on April 14th, Silva's 35th birthday. Chael Sonnan is also a touch compe titor and fighter. Sonnen has a record of 24-10-1, he has one 14 of his fights by decision and proves to be a tough competitor with the stamina to make it through all the rounds. Chael Sonnan originally fought for WEC but moved to UFC after the WEC got ride of the middleweight division. Chael has faced many top fighters and held his ground. Randy Couture is a beast but he has aged some which may give James Toney a chance in the octagon. Randy Couture was originally scheduled to fight Rich Franklin in UFC 115 but not Franklin is fighting Liddell. Couture later said he would like to fight James Toney and got his wish.

James Toney has yet to fight in the UFC and is taking on hall of fame fighter Randy Couture? His boxing and amateur records are impressive and this guy has more knockouts to his name then most UFC fighters could ever dream of, which is how he got the nickname "Lights Out". If James Toney can keep Randy Couture on his feet and land some of his lights out punches he could definitely win this fight. He has been talking a big game about chocking out Couture, hope his ego doesn't get the best of him. I can't wait to see what this guy does in the octagon. Watch UFC 118.

This is why the UFC is the premiere company in MMA. They got on cable television and did a deal with spike TV and created a reality show to help expose their brand to the public on free tv. Most importantly, they were smart enough to really give the first time viewers on FOX potentially one of the great bouts in the history of the heavyweight division.

Some organizations don't have the foresight to give something valuable away for free to show viewers the best their sport has to offer. They will only show B-level fights on network television. What the UFC knows all to well is that if these two fighters put on a great fight the people that watched the sport for the first time are much more likely to shell out the $60 for the next time either of them are headlining a pay per view event. This is what sets the UFC's philosophy so far away from what I remember with boxing. The only thing that could derail this great first time event on FOX is some sort of injury to one of the fighters (let's just hope nothing like this happens to ruin this inaugural event), but other than that it should be the start of a very good relationship between the UFC and FOX broadcast network.

As for the fighters themselves they sport very impressive records with only one loss between both fighters. Junior Dos Santos was submitted by an arm bar back in 2007 by Joaquim Ferreira for his only loss and this was before he began his career with the UFC. Cain Velasquez is not only undefeated, but he has been an absolute terror in the ring. While he has only had 9 fights under his belt so far, only one fight went to a decision and that was back in 2009 vs Cheick Kongo. Of the 8 remaining fights 7 were finished by TKO and 1 by KO.

There is nothing like having an undefeated heavyweight fighter and in the world of MMA this is not a common occurrence. If it were not for Cains recent injury of his torn rotator cuff he should be the favorite to win this fight. As we have seen before coming off a serious injury and a long lay off can put on some ring rust on any fighter. The way the UFC works is you fight the best fighters all the time and there is no time to take a couple of easy fights to get back into the groove.

Shane Carwin found this out all to quickly when he first returned after major back surgery. His first opponent when he came back into the octagon was none other than Junior Dos Santos. Unfortunately for Carwin, Junior Dos Santos was in top form and nearly ended the fight in the very first round bloodying Carwins face so severely it was 50/50 on if the Doctor working the fight would allow it to continue. The fight did end in a unanimous decision for Junior Dos Santos, but the fight was never really in doubt from very early in the first round.

So this first main event on FOX really could be a coin toss for who would win. They are both that good. If Cain is healthy though he should be the favorite to retain the title, but if not then Junior Dos Santos should be favored in the fight. Ufc Odds And Ufc Picks: Ufc 111 Vera Vs. Jones - Sports - Boxing

UFC on Versus 1: Vera vs. Jones will take place on March 21, 1010. With the best lines right now putting Jones at -230 and Vera at +205, either of these are decent value and initially I'm leaning towards Jones to finish Vera, who himself hasn't been finishing many fights for awhile now.

Even though these are decent lines, I'm looking ahead for some match ups with better value. I'm finding them in UFC 111 on March 27, 2010. I will update all the matchups and picks each week at

Frank Mir (13-4) is at -138 odds over Shane Carwin. This is the best line on Mir right now. If you like him over Carwin, I'd think about getting in on this. In the least, you should pay close attention to this line as the fight approaches and make your move if the action starts to affect the lines. Carwin is serious about this fight, but the night should belong to Mir, especially if he shows up in the same condition for his last fight against Cheick Kongo. Remember the guillotine in the first round of UFC 107? I'm sure Kongo does. Mir wants the Lesnar fight next and shutting out Carwin will give him that chance. I'd like to see Mir/Lesnar go at it again too.

All that being said, I wouldn't count out Carwin. Before Mir showed up in shape and well conditioned in his last match, I was favoring Carwin on their eventual match-up. Shane Carwin's last win was a KO of Gabriel Gonzaga in the first round of their fight at UFC 96 on March 7, 2009. Ring rust may be an issue, but Carwin has a record of 11-0 with 6 wins by KO and 5 submission. He's undefeated and ready to make this his division. He is a serious, very focused guy. Some of the online sportsbooks have Carwin at +130 and his fans could find nice value in this underdog bet. Mir's been stopped by a strong wrestler who can throw a heavy punch...I'm watching those lines right now.

Compare this to George St. Pierre on the same card currently coming in at -800 at some sportsbooks and Dan Hardy at +569. The value on the boards right now is the Mir/Carwin match with Vera and Jones giving decent value at UFC on Versus 1 on March 21.

I start to look ahead like this if I'm waiting a few weeks for an event to happen. I start to look at the lines and watch the movement. I start focusing on what I think is good value and pay the closest attention to those match-ups. I then look more closely at the fighters and how I think they stack-up against each other.
